Early in Kelsey and James’s relationship, Kelsey announced they would “someday be married in the mountains with James wearing a blue suit.” They couldn’t have asked for a better day to come from the flat lands of North Dakota to the towering peaks of Big Sky, as the weather and temperature were perfect (and I think it snowed the weekends before and after!). The day was full of emotion, fun, and beautiful moments. Also, the dance floor was one of the best I’ve ever seen. There were only 70 people at the wedding, but their contingent of high quality dancers was very strong!
We had a really relaxed morning as the bride and her party got ready in a house while the guys prepped in a hotel room. We had a midday first look, then were able to take the lift much of the way up Lone Peak for some portraits. The ceremony was perfect in the late afternoon, then there was ample time for some more portrait up around Moonlight Basin before having a great reception at Big Sky Resort and a very long dance party (4.5 hours!).
Here is the story of Kelsey and James’s engagement, which happened in Mexico where they originally met! “We were back in Ixtapa, Mexico where we met. We were about 3 days into our vacation and we had plans to go to Charlie’s to watch sunset with our friends and my parents (they flew in that day and joined us). We were relaxing drinking margaritas and James suggested we get up and take our yearly sunset picture (at the perfect time). My friend was taking pictures and I noticed about 19 people stood up and walked up to us (our friends) and watched our friend take pictures. Finally he go down on one knee and surprised me!! Of course I said yes right away! It was such a beautiful moment!”
