Missoula is not one of Montana's elopement hotspots, but that doesn't mean there aren't beautiful locations nearby for a small, weekday wedding ceremony. Annie and Dwight had originally planned to get married in the spring in Baltimore with a traditional larger wedding. Covid-19 redirected those plans towards something smaller, and eventually shifted even those plans towards a different date. We finally settled in early August and made it happen with just the two of them and Annie's two brothers. We had to wade a river to reach a beautiful gravel bar where the ceremony took place. Afterwards we spent time working our way up Rock Creek canyon and taking portraits along the way. This was one of the only times I have photographed without sunlight on a sunny day, but fortunately I've been working on these types of flatter light portraits so I think we succeeded in creating some really moody images.
